As students, teachers, and performers of Zimbabwean music — any music — it’s important to us to properly honor the people who have created the music we play. Thanking them, crediting them, and paying them are among the ways we can give back.
The goal of the Dandemutande Copyrights & Royalties Information Center is to make it easier to figure out when we should pay royalties to composer, arrangers, and lyricists, how to pay them, and how much to pay. Kite Giedraitis has started the ball rolling by writing a set of Frequently Asked Questions and answers. We welcome additional contributions to this section to help fill out our communal knowledge of this complex area.
The next step will be to augment the existing Dandemutande song Index with details about copyright holders and royalty payment receivers to make paying royalties for specific songs much easier.
