How the List Works The Dandemutande Listserve distributes email messages among a group of around 600 subscribers with a focused interest in Zimbabwean music and culture and related topics. The messages announce forthcoming musical events around the world, announce the availability of recordings, books, and films of interest to devotees of Zimbabwean music, or contain discussions among subscribers on topics ranging from marimba building to song folklore to current political events. You can post a message to the group by typing the word distribute at the beginning of your message. People can join the list by sending a message saying subscribe and drop out any time by sending unsubscribe. Messages from this list are identifiable by the prefix D: before their subject headings. Classified ads have titles beginning D ad:. The Dandemutande Listserve is not automated and is moderated I personally approve and forward each message to the group. I will not distribute flames (harsh attacks) or spam (self-proliferating advertising material) or other messages I feel are irrelevant to the topic of the group. On just two occasions in the past, when I felt messages were overly acerbic, I have declined to distribute them and have worked with the authors to arrive at more civilized interchange. I also perform slight cosmetic edits on messages, removing carriage returns from paragraphs of text where warranted, correcting an occasional typographical error that seems obviously unintended, and internationalizing messages by spelling out state and province abbreviations, adding nations to addresses, and adding the country code 1 to US and Canadiain telephone numbers. I do not otherwise edit intellectual content and I contact the author first if I feel that further changes are warranted. At present, subscribing to the list is free and there is no charge to distribute announcements. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments. Warm regards,
Paul Novitski
